Valid SSDI claims still get denied

On Behalf of | Mar 13, 2020 | SSDI

Did you apply for SSDI, thinking that you were a shoo-in for benefits based on your medical history, only to get denied? We have been doing this for a long time. We understand how frustrating this can be. You may feel shocked that you didn’t get approved on the first attempt.

Here’s the thing you need to keep in mind: Valid claims still get denied. Some experts estimate that roughly one out of every three initial applications gets denied. This happens for many different reasons, including:

  • Lack of medical evidence
  • Incomplete medical records
  • Paperwork errors
  • A conflict of interest with the insurance company
  • Documents that you sent in but which never arrived

It could be very simple. Maybe you were supposed to sign a certain page of the documentation and you just forgot to do it. Maybe you have the right medical records and evidence, but you just didn’t send it all in. Maybe you made some functional mistakes when writing out dates or other types of information.

It does not take much to trigger a denial. Before you assume that they will not give you any benefits, take the time to go over everything and see if there are any little errors holding you back. Rectifying them may get you the benefits that you have felt all along that you deserve.

You may also have a chance to add more evidence. For instance, non-medical evidence like a note from your boss or a co-worker about how you cannot work any longer may help swing things in your favor.

No matter why you got denied, just be sure you know what steps you can take and how to get started.
